Slow Motion and Ramp Speed

I shot a video in 24p w/ the DVX. Now I want to slow motion and ramp the speed of the footage and I'm trying to figure out how to do it. Whats the best way to get great slow motion footage? Do I need to de-interlace it first? And can anyone easily explain how to ramp the speed in FCP. Thanks in advance.

ITs tough if you shot in 24p. Usually you want to hsoot in 60i then de interlace and put it into fcp. THere is a method on how to do that here. Im not sure about 24p though. Looks choppy. Sorry

First, shoot with a fast shutter speed. That gives you less motion blur. Slo-mo in an NLE introduces some motion blur, all NLE's do this. And use the tried and proven frame rates of 7, 15, 20, 33.333, 50, 60, 75 per cents. These are the ones I have found work best.

But, not all clips slo-mo the same. It really depends on the original footage, how much motion is there, etc.

When I work, I'm always experimenting. So the first thing I do in a new project is make a Sequence called "Temp Work Space". It is where I can drop clips and try weird stuff to them without screwing up anything else.

Drop your clip into a Sequence by itself, right click it (or control click if you still haven't trashed the stupid one button mouse, or stupid Mighty Mouse) in the Timeline window and select Speed. Experiment with percentages, as well as trying with and without frame blending. Some footage slo-mo's better with, some without the Frame Blending.

Deinterlacing footage that's not interlaced is a waste of effort, as 24p is not interlaced at all.
