Slow Internet

Robbie Comeau

Como's back. back again
Recently on my Mac, I've been having slow internet..It's starting to bug me.

I don't know if it's with Rogers, or with my computer.

Could I have a potential...ugh..

..

vi-rus...?

If so, it may have been cause by email cause everyday I get spam on my Thunderbird..

Anyway, how can I fix this/help get rid of the virus?

I'm on an I-Mac.

Thanks,

Robbie

mac is fine for internet

do you have any free space on your hard drive? if so how much and what is the capacity of the drive?

have you repaired the hard drive permissions?

not having 10% or so free of the hard drive can make things run slow. also disk permissions repair can help. but most likely it sounds like it's because your sharing a connection with a bunch of people.

Macs are nearly impervious to viruses. I get tons of spam, have been on a mac for 20 years and have never had a virus.

Also, if you are mostly talking about video, firefox is not the best for video on a mac. Safari is best for that. Google chrome seems OK too.

Chances are the problem is with(in) your comp. But it could also be:

Unless you have one of Rogers' true high-speed ($$$) options, it's going to be slow - not dial-up slow, but annoying enough to complain about - whenever there are a lot of people on your network/in your zone. I'd say now that the school year is finishing up, you'll probably be sharing the time you previously had to yourself (during school hrs, after midnight, etc) with insatiable, multitasking, wasteful teenagers on facebook, youtube, myspace, skype, streaming tv shows/movies, playing games, etc literally all at the same time, and at the same time as their friends. Trust me, I know this situation well.
