Could be normal - it all depends on your hardware and what you are trying to render:

Can you provide any other specs on your computer?

Processor speed, single or dual core?

Amount of RAM in the machine?

What sort of stuff is in the video? animation, keyframing, keying, ,motion graphics etc?

What type (mov, avi etc) and resolution is the footage (if any) in your comp

What are you outputting to - format? quality settings?

Once you give us more info, we'll be able to take a more educated guess :)

do a search, this has been covered numerous times and there is plenty info in old threads that will help you troubleshoot

Not only that, as oneinfinitloop will attest to, consider yourself lucky. Try getting finished full frame photorealistic 3D renders that fast. I would give my first born for that kind of speed out of a 3D app.

I have had frames of video take up to 30 seconds and more to render per frame, with both a p4 3 gig procesor and dual core 2.4 gig Amd processors.

If you are stacking your footage with effects and plugins, expect that kind of render time.

I'm experiencing insane render times as well...I'm on a g5 dual core (pre intel), running on...I'm working in a 720x1280 project. With one light, camera, and 22 pieces of text. I've been outputting at the most basic, which is a animation codec. Render times for a 10 second piece has gone well into 4-5-6 hours...how come? These are my specs on my computer:
Model Name: Power Mac G5 Quad
Model Identifier: PowerMac11,2
Processor Name: PowerPC G5 (1.1)
Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz
Number Of CPUs: 4
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
Memory: 8.5 GB
Bus Speed: 1.25 GHz
Boot ROM Version: 5.2.7f1

Working HD in 3d can choke up a lot of resources. It might not be your settings, it might be your project.
