Hi,

I'm looking for a video slider of great quality at correct price. I need to center mount it on one tripod and it will have to flexion/torsion.

I'm going to use it with a 7d and sometimes xha1....

Actually, i saw some slider which could be good but want advice of someone who have teste them.

- The rhino slider pro
- Konova k5
- Varavon s

The first thing i need is the capacity to produce smooth move.

i have test the rhino carbon, it's cool, quite smooth but have some flexion due the the lake od rigidity and no attach in the center.
I test the cineslider too, really great but too expensive and some weak point : heavy, not enought long.

Please let me know
Thanks

Using a 3ft slider on a single point mount is a fools errand. The only reasonably priced tripod head that is stiff enough for this is the Kessler Hercules and a K-Pod tripod to go with it. Using a lighter tripod and head on one end and a century light stand on the other works quite well and will provide enough stiffness. Without enough rigidity you will not achieve smooth moves unless you motorize and have complete remote control with no hands on cam.

I'm saving up for this one.

Me too. I noticed that they've recently improved the design, which is probably why it has a 2-3 week back order right now.

Improved Version Changes

- Weight reduced for an even lighter slider : 3.6 lbs instead of 4, which is probably the change from 19mm solid carbon rods to 15mm solid carbon rods. I am hoping this might mean a longer version might show up down the road.

- Bumpers on End Blocks for softer stops : So you can't smash into the end of the slider rods.

- Centre feet for increased strength and stability : Makes sense, especially with the new 75 lb weight capacity.

- Increased load capacity (75 lbs)

"The first thing i need is the capacity to produce smooth move"

Although not always considered the best slider for smooth, I motorized a Zaza style - Kessler series 1 belt drive with a nice soft start system built from CineCity gear motors and a recordable controller. The idea is to prerecord your slider movement with a ramp up to speed, go a defined distance and speed ramp down. The routine is recorded while making the actual move using the controller. Hit repeat and execute the exact routine you just recorded. The controller can record 4 different routines that can be stored and run simultaneously or independently, so there is plenty of room to grow this into a bigger system with more axis's or other functions. Depending on the gearmotor used, you can go from very fast down to time lapse speed range. If you had enough belt and track, you could go on for well, a long way. Different gearmotors are relatively cheap and two or three will cover most everything you could want. One of the keys to smoothing out a belt drive slider is to have a tiny amount of tension-braking against the carriage to keep some tension on the belt. Going slightly uphill works well, or even some kind of counterweight would work great. I have used the carriage assembly fasteners to ad friction with good results. The other important thing is to use gearmotors instead of servos as they are much smoother for starting and stopping.

I had to build a motor and controller mount which bolts onto the end casting of the Kessler. Used velcro to mount the controller and Tekkeon battery. Not totally cheap, but about half of what the Kessler setup would cost and has much more function-flexibility. It isn't quite as sexy as the Kessler drive, but it is variable and very smooth.

If anyone is interested to see it, or see a bill of materials, let me know.

Thanks for reply. I know this not the best to have a tripod for a 1m slider but i work only in outdoor and the ground is never plate so it's just like loose your time to put to tripod, level, them, put the slider.....etc... i will see.

I use it on the ground too and can say that i really see the difference between 2 and 3 ft, with 2 foot you always as the feeling to miss something... really need 1meter.

Someone have test the slider i mention ?

Thanks !!!

I have been using my Dana Dolly more and more. I also have a Kessler Pocket Dolly II, and the only way to use it with just a center mounted tripod support, is to strip the camera down to bare bones, otherwise you will need support at both ends of the slider.
