Skycrane junior or Cobracrane 1+

I searched and haven't seen much info about the Skycrane junior. I'm considering it or the Cobracrane 1+. I like the fact that the skycrane doesn't need the tripod head. Seen lots of good things about the cobra but I'd like to minimize wear on my 503 head if possible. Anybody use the Skycrane junior?

I love the skycrane junior. If you plan to use it often ( a few times a month or more), then yes, you should be concerned about your tripod head. Getting everything you need to use it well, quickly, and efficiently is costly, however. hundreds of dollars added on. I had to buy a lot of extra things to make it all happen (weights, extra allen keys, extra screws, monitor system, tripod, snowboard bag with wheels. the extra screws and keys are just in case I lose the originals on a shoot. if it is going to be too much for you to lug it around or you can't put it up fast enough, then you won't use it--that goes for any crane or any tool, really. I can't compare it with the cobra, but I wasn't into mounting the crane on my tripod head, among a few other preferential things..(I got LOTS of phone time from the designer to get going with this initially. I know if I could make it down there to his location, I'd have a great, free lesson in store for me.) Also, it has a few more features, I think..like having the short jib option and 360 degree thingy. you really need a beefy, substantial tripod, but probably not want to use any extremely pricey legs. I got a separate one just for the crane and it is substantial. when your camera is up on that thing and there are people and things under-around you, you do want to be sure everything is tight, solid, and won't screw up. you won't regret spending the extra money if you can be sure the tool will deliver safely and quickly. best of luck. call bob and he can explain other things too. save his time though and study the design and terminology before you call, otherwise you will be lost...
