Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Re: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Casshern. Freaking wow :o

Some much for technology limitations impeding imagination. I just hope we don’t see a trend of horrible stories with fantastic scope/visuals (I haven’t seen any of these so that’s just pure speculation).

Re: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Casshern does indeed look amazing. I wish I knew what they were saying, it looks like it MAY be along the same lines as Sky Captain.

Re: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

i have read that Casshern's story just doesnt live up to the visuals. that is too bad.

I thought sky captain was really good if a little shallow.

I look forward to Sin City with much anticipation.

Re: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

I can't wait for sin city either.

Now, I’m being an obsessive geek and this shot is so fast probably that no one but a jerk like me would note it. However, I’m very interested in compositing so I started checking out the Casshern trailer and found the crowd flip pretty quick.

Same two guys on the ends are just flipped at different intervals with the end guy cut off on one side. Crowd multiplying like this is done all the time of course, I guess it was so obvious since it was such a close shot.

Sorry, this is probably the single most useless post I’ve ever posted, just being a geek. I can’t wait to get my hands on the Sky Captain and Casshern DVDs.

For some reason I laughed REALLY hard when I read that.

Re: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

:D (at least it was good for a laugh then ;) I still have know idea why I posted that, currently seeking therapy and a life...)

Re: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

hehe. Don't feel bad null. There is geek in all of us, else we wouldn't be here. ;D

It's always fun to spot some gaff or cheat.

Re: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

I was wondering if anybody has any stories about their friends seeing digital movies
(i.e. Sky Captain, Collateral, Once Upon a time in Mexico) and noticing it wasnt film?

I don't mean us geeks here. We can spot the difference. But I mean the general public. None of my "normal" friends has ever mentioned seeing a difference. Maybe it regiters as different but they dont think much of it.

Sky Captain got away with it by being so highly stylized i think.

Re: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

I have several friends that LOVE "28 Days Later" and were completely shocked when I (a) told them the majority of the movie was shot on DV and (b) showed them the camera it was shot on. And one of these guys considers himself a film aficionado.

I personally have never heard a non-film-geek mention it. (Star Wars ep 1, etc)

i saw this last year for the first time and loved it. i thought it was shot great and the acting was alright. Jude Law has great acting abilitly but i dont really see him in the main role... i liked him in it but someone else could have been better. Paltrow was alright, and i'm not a big Jolie fan... Ribisi was good in it i thought too. overall a very enjoyable film.

I felt like a kid in the 50's watching that movie!!!
It had been a looooong time since i ate so much popcorn
I wish more movies were this much fun

Didnt like it. Maybe its just me, but all that stylization, hot (orangish) colors, and CG gave me a head-ache. And I use Maya on a regular basis....go figure!

Your just too tight man!
Sit back and enjoy the show and dont analyze it inch for inch!
Its about having fun, pure and simple

 So two years after the thread started... and a YEAR after you saw it... you thought "I gotta' get my take on this movie out to the masses!"

What did you wait a year for? Your avatar is especially appropriate because you pulled this one out of the mausoleum man...

I genuinely want to know... why? What made you think of this all this time later?

well i saw it a year ago for the first time, and at that time i wasnt on the board yet. then i was restocking stuff at work the other day and came across Sky Captain. i rewatched it again, loved it and wanted to see if there was a thread on it... didnt want to start a new thread.

what didnt you like about it Briceman?

Visually the film is amazing. Story-wise, it leaves a lot to be desired. Still, it's fun, and I've watched it several time. But hands down my favorite part of the film is Giovani Ribisi. I have no idea why I like this guy so much but any performance that he's given has me glued to the screen.
