Skipping Video/Audio

Here's a new problem I've encountered. I filmed some video and some voice-over audio. When playing the footage back on my DVX100-B, everything looks and sounds fine.

When I transfer the footage VIA firewire (using the Vegas 6.0 capture video) to my laptop, everything appears and sounds fine, as well.

But when I replay the footage on my computer, the video skips around to various parts of the tape, and the audio either crackles, and/or sounds as if it's skipping. The odd thing is that the audio is sometimes okay (for around 10 seconds), and then the problem reappears for 30-45 seconds.

I tried a new mini DV tape and the problem is still present. This didn't used to happen.

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm wondering what I should do? Thanks!

What are your computer's specs?

As in: How fast is your processor? How much RAM do you have? etc.

It could be that your computer is too slow to play back your footage.

Aaah. I've been editing on this laptop for a year, and this is a new problem. So I don't think it's my laptop. I may redownload Vegas. Granted, I don't have a lot of free space left on my C-drive. Would that contribute to this problem? If so, I can delete a lot of unneeded files.

Anybody ever experience this? I'm going to free up some space tomorrow and see what happens...

I'm almost certain the problem is my laptop. I'm going to buy a firewire card for my PC and will post what happens.

The closer your hard drive is to full, the more problems you'll have in this regard.

Get an external hard drive and edit from that.
