Skeleton Key

Ok, so I watched it... With 5 friends at 1:40 am, so it didn't really matter what to watch (besides, the only 2 alternatives were Bewitched and Valiant). I don't know why the **** this movie is being advertised as the scariest of this summer - Amityville was tons scarier, as well as better. It was VERY slow, had maybe 3 intense moments total, but somehow I liked the ending. It was surprising and quite original and maybe even worth watching the first hour and half to get it.... Though probably not.

Anyway, I didn't start this thread to discuss the movie, it's just that there was something that bugged me while watching it. Near the very end, when Kate Hudson was rushing to prepare the spell (get chalk and stuff) a few shots looked... like video :shocked: Wth is up with that? If anyone else watched it, did you notice the same thing?

Nevermind. It was a pretty weak film. I wasn't remotely suspensified during any scene and even the "jump" moments designed to be startling weren't.... well, startling. Most people I talk to say the end was their favorite part, but I thought the end was cheesy and cliche. It ended like a bad Tales From The Crypt episode. Bleh.

As for the "video-looking" shots, I think it was just the combination of the shutter-speed changes and the random blurring and shifts from black and white to color, but for the most part it looked pretty filmish.

Gotta dig the PG-13 Horror films. There is something seriously wrong with the state of horror if they're calling this the scariest film of the summer

What pissed me off was how they compared it to stuff like Rosemary's Baby, The Amityville Horror, and The Shining. How do you screw up a voodoo horror film?! You have to be trying!

Yeah, actually that was a very awesome movie. Strangely though, it kind of played up on the stereotypes that the book tried to disprove.

I don't even think it's that PG-13 is limiting. You can be hella scary with PG-13 without having to show tits, guts, and "****" words flying around like square hats at a graduation. It's just that filmmakers today are soft, and lazy, and only encouraged by the mass market of dumbasses who view the films and don't have any idea what makes a movie good and what's worse, buys into anything MTV bills as "Scary" (why do you think the Ring got so popular?). It's the lack of creativity, not the lack of an arbitrary hard-R rating that's doing the killing.

I like the Skeleton Key, it was a decent creepy horror flick. Not perfect, but decent I mean it could have been better but I still enjoyed it. I enjoyed Amittyville Horror, but I hated The Devil's Rejects which was a pile of ****. Talk about a bad horror flick full of nudity, vagina, tits, **** you sayed over 200 times, perversion, nonsense, unecessary gore, taking 20-30 minutes to kill a victim in a hotel and rated R at that.

I just rented this movie and, wow, what a great ****ing ending for an otherwise average flick.

That movie had one of the most disturbing scenes in a mainstream film I've seen in a long time. And the big twist at the end makes it a hundred times more disturbing. I mean I don't want to spoil anything here, but do you realize what really happened in that lynching scene? I only bring it up cause I almost missed it.

This is the same writer who wrote Arlington Road. This guy really knows how to write endings.

p.s. Roger Ebert said something about how the old man character asking for help didn't make sense if you thought about it. But it made perfect sense to me. Is this a typical case of Roger going senile, or is there something I'm missing?

Yep, yep, the ending was great... too bad the rest of the movie sucked. But, damn, it sure left you "Whoa!" when you realized what happened.

I grow more and more pissed off by this trend with each subpar horror movie released. Growing up, horror movies were R. Plain and simple.

I feel like the freaking kids have enough already...everything has to be family friendly and kid friendly...even horror???? If kids want horror, read Goosebumps. Why do the rest of us have to suffer? (not than anything could have saved this particular schlockfest of a turd)

* Sigh *

the only thing i liked about this movie was the first 5 minutes. there were some really great shots. and the scene where she was getting in the shower was pretty hot.

the story itself made me want to kill babies. i mean... because it was so lame.
