size of softboxes

I have 500 watt jtl's , the kit has served me very very well but the 24x 24 softboxes are getting worn so Im going to replace them. I was thinking about going bigger. Im usually shooting models on a bed. Would bigger be better?

It's not the size of the chimera but they...well never mind

Has anyone had this problem:

I'm using a video pro chimera-- i think that is the version-- and a 1k Mole Richardson fresnel. fully flooded it does not fill the front of the light box. In fact there is a real intense circle of light slighly off center and a much weaker glow from the rest of my "big source" Very dissapointing. I think I get petter production out of the smaller lightbox and a 650 mole fresnel

My advice is to make sure that your lamp hits as much of the front panel as possible. Perhaps use a open face fixture, which I think the JTL are...

Plus the really big boxes can get in the way

The larger the box the less sourced it looks. but they also have no penetrating power... the light loses potency very quickly... though i hear it happens to lots of lights. ( oh jeez) .

The larger the apparent source, the softer the light.

I find that I need at least a 1k open face and better yet, I use my 2k Mighty with my medium (36 x 48) Chimera.
