Size Adjustments

Using a 640x480 mpg source clip, is it acceptable (for highest quality) that the clip is naturally up scaled to 112% in FCP, or should I be up scaling it in Compressor or Mpeg Streamclip first and then add it to the timeline? Does it make any difference?
Your experience is appreciated.

The reason why I'm asking is because in my documentary, working with source material that is almost the same size as normal 720x480 (same height) footage, FCP automatically bumps up the size a little (112%) to make it fit. Can I leave it at 112% (FCP enlarged )without worrying about compromizing noticeable quality (especially for big screen presentation) or should I be up rezzing this (to 720x480) in Compressor or MPEG Streamliner, like with much smaller clips?
Thank you in advance.

640x480 is the square/rectangle pixel equivalent of 720x480. If you look closely... they all probably look a little thin.

So... I'd first get it out of mpeg format. Not good there. Using Streamclip to convert it to DV/NTSC will help. Then you won't have any scaling issues in FCP.

Good luck,

Thank you. That helps so much! Would that also be the case if I need to use Quicktime clips that are 640x480?
