Sitcom format

Hey, everyone. I'm wanting to turn a short I wrote into a sitcom pilot for a contest. Problem is, I don't know what the structure is for a sitcom -- cold open (term I found after loading Final Draft's sitcom template), time to first commerical break, to second, etc. I've been searching online like a madman, but haven't been able to find anything other than links to classes, books, etc. Time is too short to order a book -- already checked nearest Borders in person.

Also, I know the actual script format is different, but I read that if you're doing a single-camera sitcom like "Curb..." or "Arrested Development" you can use the standard film format -- anyone concur or disagree?

Thanks,

Fox

There's different break-downs for different sitcoms.

Best read a script of a show that's gonna be the same as yours, and copy their act structure.

Scripts are all over the internet, especially at Drews Script O Rama.

I'll try Drews. Haven't had much luck for the genre I'm looking for. Only found transcriptions for both "Curb" and "Arrested," which weren't formatted, of course.

--time passes--

Just checked Drew's. No luck.

HBO doesn't have adverts, so there's no act structure.

ENTOURAGE and CURB are written like a film script.

You can try this Q over at done deal pro or tvwriter.com

my impression was that they are written with kind of like a show bible. each episode has to follow these guidelines kind of thing. do you understand that. i know thats how star trek was done, tho its not a sitcom.
