Single battery for all or battery in device?

There are battery distribution units to power multiple devices from the same battery. It looks like NP-1s (65 wh in Li-ion) are popular. In other applications v-lok batteries (upto 130wh) seem popular.

Is it better to have a recorder, mixer, light with its own battery source or to share a common battery with distribution? Is there a preferred standard battery or just the battery a main device or the camera comes with?

sup to you. Convenience always has a price. I shoot too much reality to fall from one battery but do see the strengths in it.
