Sin City

I just got through watching Sin City and I have to say it's one of the coolest movies I've ever seen! My daughter and her husband saw it and she said it gave them both nightmares for weeks afterwards (which is saying something as he is a cop in Houston). She said it was one of those must see movies that you never want to see again. She called it "beautiful but disturbing". All I can say is that although I can agree with everything she said, I can't wait for the collectors edition to come out! I understand there's an extended version coming out. Anyone know when that will be?

I was actually a bit disappointed with Sin city. I had so high thought for it, that when I saw it didnt was as good as I expected, mainly because it was to focused on the violence.

Great style, but not much substance.

Funny, I just watched Sin City last night. The highly stylized cinematography and greenscreen fx are pretty amazing, but the material is shallow. I'm sure it's really faithful to the graphic novels (*cough* comic books), and maybe that's the problem (at least for me). I found the violence is more fatiguing than disturbing because of the repetition. I really didn't feel like any of the characters got developed in more than a cursory way, so it's hard to get invested in (what passed for ) the story. When I end up concentrating on the lighting, camera moves, and fx techniques, the story isn't working for me. Still, it was fun watching for a bit and if you just want to see a live action version of a graphic novel--it's true to form.

I enjoyed the film on different levels, but wouldn't say that its great. Visually i was mesmerized. the black and white with color here and there, the lighting, i mean it looked so dam good on my tv. Okay I salivated at how it looked.

As far as the story, it definately better than some/many of the comic book films coming/have comed out. But your are constantly reminded they are caricatures, so you can't take them seriously, so didn't take the story or the movie seriously in that sense. The characters weren't developed enough for me to care about them and their many dysfunctional issues. But thatz okay, I wasn't expecting that.

So again, I liked the film. I wasn't bothered by the violence at all. Maybe I'm just sick (i thought dusk till dawn was a lot more gorry).

RR impressed me with this one. I think the last one I saw before this was Once Upon A Time and that was soooooooo bad. stupid actually.

I thought Sin City was great visually. I'm not a big fan of green screen and CGI, but it really worked for this. I thought the dialogue was hit or miss. Alot of it was slick and some of it was just awful. They could've developed the characters more, but since it was a comic book action flick I wasn't expecting a lot of development. I thought the acting done by most of the female members of the cast was terrible. Rosario Dawson was horrible, Jessica Alba was okay, though. Too bad they couldn't get Jessica to show a little more skin. That would have been nice.

It's still the best thing RR has done so far.

Yes! I can't wait! I love this flick! As a fan of graphic novels and comic books in general, I view this as a landmark. The visual feel and look of this movie was a perfect reproduction of a graphic novel. As for the dialog, the acting and the script, they were exactly what they should be. They weren't trying to make Of Mice and Men, they were trying to reproduce Sin City on film. In my opinion, the makers of this movie did a great job. As for the violence, that's what Sin City is about.

Ok... I FINALLY watched Sin City. Now I've seen every RR movie made. (Yes, even Sharkboy and Lavagirl). Anyway, Sin City was great look-wise, and the editing and cinematography were right on, but I just never connected with the story or the characters. I also felt the whole movie was disjointed, and didn't flow. Maybe, I'll watch it again, and not think the same thing, but for some reason, it just didn't work for me.

The first time I saw Sin City I thought it was very good. The next time I watched it I thought it was great. You have to watch it more than once to really appreciate it. The use of V.O. was spot on. Mickey Rourke was the ****. Awesome movie!

I think Micky Rourke's performance was brilliant. I'd love it if they did a whole story, fully developed, just on his Marv character.
