Sin City

I really want to see this again. It's quite a feat in that I wasn't thinking about the format of the film. Yes it's digital and green screened, but I was so into it that I wasn't thinking about the green screen and all the effects. It was like watching a comic book. Mickey Rourke was amazing. My only real complaints were with some of the actresses. I thought some of the actresses were a little weak and took me out of the story. Benicio Del Toro was awesome.

Agreed, Britney Murphy delivered some lines in such a way that made me want to make myself useless to a woman.

That' just about killed me TC.. lol

I went and got to the theatre 10 min before it started and walked into the theatre but it playing on a tiny screen.... so I changed my tickets and sat around for an hour with the wife and caught it on the biggest mother screen in the theatre.... It pisses me off when a new movie with the potential of making the $$ is tossed into a little theatre.... but hey what ever.... I loved it probably the best film ROBERT RODRIGUEZ has done IMO, I'll probably check it at least once more in the upcoming weeks....

P.S. it made 12 million on Friday alone, since the budget was around 40+ mill I really think he's only going to continue turning heads and push Digital cinema to another level.... There's just so much less risk involved when your not droping 120+mill and another 50+ for marketing....

Hands down the best RR flick... though Dusk to Dawn is one kick ass film!

I had a slight fear RR would overuse cross dissolves like he did in Once upon A Time in Mexico(which without Johnny Depp, that movie could easily be up for a razzie Worst pic award). But, the cross dissolves were used well, and not overdone.

I think it helped having a co director for RR. With him wearing so many hats during the entire process it has to be damn near impossible to make a good movie without some screw ups of some sort. I'd like to see more co directed movies by RR.

If you check out my last post in the Sin City premiere thread, you will read about another funny but awesome DVD special feature.

I think it's only a matter of being conditioned to movies like these. I didn't know what to expect so I was in for a surprise. It was very comic book. Also interesting in the way that it kept minimal usage of screen space to tell it's story- does well to allow a movie to be a true cinematic experience.

I realize most of you might be fans of the book-sorry to say I'm not. Still, I thought this movie was fantastic- but I would never watch it again except for reference- just because of my lack of interest in Sin City. I admit the several stories threw me off and I lost track but I dont think I was paying attention. and I dont know miller's work that well.
Overall, I think Rodriguez did good job at it and I guess Miller and Tarantino as well. Love the camera work and how it was "shot and cut".

The one where Dwight is taking the bodies to the pits and Jackie Boy starts talking to him. The one with all the crazy colors and instead of narating, Dwight is actually speaking. Very cool, I liked it alot.

didn't Frank Miller write Robo cop 2,3? I'm going to see this in like 3 hours. I hope its not a dissapointment. I'm not a Frank Miller fan so we'll see....

Dude, there's no need to bring up RC 2 and 3. Everybody has a bad streak.

(I can't find a good smilie to go here.)

This movie is visual entertaining. Every shot was like straight from the comics. However the black & white did tend to bother my eyes alittle. Despite the mild violence the movie did have a Tarentino flavor to it. Overall it was okay. Yeah, I said it, it was just okay. I still think From Dusk Til Dawn was RR most entertaining movie IMO.

Would you see it again?
Only if a cute women asked me to. Other than that, no.

Would I recommended this to a friend?
Most definitely!

Would you see this with Jessica Ala?
um, she's gonna have to wait in line. :)

From a scale from 1-10 what do you give it?
71/2

Would you see this with Tarentino?
Only if he's paying for dinner.

I was going to ask him this question at the premiere, but he was too busy being horrded by other fans.

In all honesty, I think the 4:4:4 color space helped him desaturate the colors even more than anyone would be able to in 4:1:1. There was so much color volume in what he shot that it was easier for him to pull out whatever colors he wanted in post and keep the ones he did want because of this new technology.

I think RR may have used a digital intermediate to pinpoint the colors to leave in.

The movie was tits. I read the Hard Goodbye and they nailed it. Mickey Rourke was great and the look was so cool -- I think RR could have even gone for higher contrast on the actors. The Dwight thread was my least favorite of the three parts, although Benicio talking with his head dangling was pretty funny.

I think RR and Frank Miller should make the Dark Knight Returns -- who's with me? Let's get the rumor mill going ;)
