Simple switcher recommendations?

Looking for advice for a simple swticher that can take a video in feed (HDMI or SDI) from a couple cameras and can switch between the camera(s) and another source, such as powerpoint show and output the switched signal to a large screen. Any suggestions?

With most switchers you’ll want monitors to see the incoming signals and possibly a recorder for the client to have an archive copy of the switched output. This can mean a bunch of gear to haul around and wire up, plus added expense.

I suggest you look at the Convergent Design Apollo or the Atomos Sumo 19. Both devices can accept up to four inputs and allow switching by simply tapping the screen. The Apollo offers more controls, outputs and flexibility but is also more expensive than the Sumo. And the Apollo is a 7” screen while the Sumo is 19”, which can be good or bad either way depending on your thinking. Either system is incredibly easy to learn to use even for a technical novice.

It depends upon your needs. I have both Convergent Design Odyssey7Q and Blackmagic Design ATEM Television Studio HD. From what you wrote the ATEM should be fine. All the inputs need to be the same input. Most laptop you can connect via HDMI into switcher. You can set a monitor to see all the inputs if need be. I just use the small monitor that is built in for most situations. You can also store about 16 graphics and use 2 of them very easily. I generally use this for the show's logo so it is readily available. If you needed to record the inputs Odyssey 7Q (or the newer 7Q+) is an excellent choice. Comes back to exactly what your needs are and costs. Good luck with it. James
