Simple streaming/internet exporting/compression questions

Hey everyone, up until now, I've only exported for youtube and dvds (had some problems with this) really. I shoot with an XH-A1 (and now an HV20) in 1080i and edit with Premiere Pro CS3 and After Effects CS3. So, what I've been wondering is, how can I export from either of these to get the fastest streaming, best quality video? I heard from a friend that a user on here named "disjecta" was able to upload some videos with remarkable quality and extremely fast streaming capabilities. Sorry if I'm not quite clear, but I've never exported for a website besides youtube (which is extremely simple as you all know). Also, when I exported my 10 min short to dvd, it nearly took up all 4GB of it! How do the pro's get such good quality for their feature length films onto dvd? I'm guessing its some sort of high-quality compressor... the truth is is that, though I understand editing and the like... I'm completely in the dark abour exporting and compression. Any tips or answers would be greatly appreciated! :dankk2:

perhaps research the H.264 codec:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC

here are some samples using that compression scheme:

failing that, crack open a software package and start some trial and error. sometimes what i'll do too is find a video that i like and then reverse engineer it...dig into it and find out what bit rates and other info i can and then set my compression software to mimic those settings.

good luck!

What version of Sorenson Squeeze would you reccomend? I see they have a variety of different packages! I'm on a PC btw, and I probably won't be able to burn HD dvds/Blu-ray for another couple years. :( ... though I will be uploading HD for streaming purposes. Also, for DVD authoring, I hear that to get the best quality, you need more than 2 passes, what software does this?

I have Sorenson 4.3

If you buy from digital juice at all, they offer great prices on certain softwares at certain times. Sorenson 4.5 is currently half price at $249 I believe

Most applications give you the option for 1 or 2 pass CBR or VBR
