Simple Question re: Extension buzz!

Hi,

Am a very new HVX owner...(ie. 1 day old!) and trying to utilise some of my older audio 3.5mm microphones. (From my consumer cam days)

I have purchased an XLR to 3.5mm adaptor...

I want to extend the length of my 3.5 mm lapel mic...

Will I be likely to experience audio buzz problems if I extend the rather short 3.5 mm lapel mic lead by using a regular XLR mic extension cable....and then plugging into HVX?

(I remember having this problem in the past when using a 3.5mm extension lead on my consumer vid cam)

Is this somehow related to the concept of unbalanced and balanced audio? (Something still mysterious to me) Or will it just all work fine?

Any clues from ye of professional experience much appreciated!!

Thanks.

Since it is not balanced, it will be suceptable to interference from any number of sources. You may be fine, may not.. it depends on the location.

For less than $200 you can get a countryman emw (shelved response)

For about the same money you could get an oktava (you would still need the boom, kssm and bbg... , but hey)

Audio is 50% of your video.

You may want to read the stickies!

Amen. If you're going to run with an HVX, don't try to pass with the cheap lavs. Bite the bullet and get professional lavs with professional connectors and power supplies.
