Simple PS problem...

Hi, very new to PS, following a Blender tutorial that's implementing PS, ran into a problem at the 11:50 mark of this tutorial.

He makes a path using the pen tool, closes it, deselects the path, presses CTRL C + CTRL + V, suddenly there's a new layer with the path and the image inside of that path. When I close the path, deselects the path, press CTRL C/CTR V, nothing happens.

Can someone explain why?

I'm using CS5.

You need to convert the path in selection before copy and paste.

Two ways:

1-with the path selected press Cmd-return: the path become an highlighted selection.
2-Command-clic on the path in the path panel to convert it in selection.

Then you can copy/paste it.
