Similar to DVX but with greater zoom?

Sorry if this is in the wrong area as this is my first post on this forum which I just discovered.

My company goes on the road performing webcasts coast to coast and we have a 100b in our arsenal. While I like most things about this camera - one thing that is a challenge for us on the road is the 10x optical only for this camera. Sometimes, due to room size, seat chart positioning, the need for a table for computer/audio equipment - we need to be perhaps 50-60 feet (60 feet being our general max) from the subjects. On a panel with 10x optical at 60 feet - one would never get close enough in the zoom to frame for a single person but would need to do a two person shot.

I realize there are teleconverters and mounts but the cost is expensive and as we are a one man band on these shoots - we are already at max loadouts.

The end product is 320x240 streaming WM

My question is this - what is #2 for SD cameras in the 2k-3k (absolute max) range behind the 100b for feature set? Especially one that either has greater than 10x optical zoom and/or digital to get a little bit a few extra feet out of the zoom.

Our requirements are:
  • zoom/focus ring
  • similar size to 100b
  • flip out lcd
  • built in xlr
  • minidv based
  • SD - if HDV camera then it shoots quality in SD mode and is reputable as such
  • manual audio
  • smooth steps in manual exposure
  • at least 10x optical - 12x or greater preferred
  • up to 24x digital zoom good for "just in case" set ups.

I've been reading up but not finding anything that really fits our needs - the 100b fits everything - if only they had a 12x or greater zoom! I may end up buying regardless and we'll need to wiggle our way in out of necessity, but seeing if there is any other SD or HDV (with quality SD) cameras our there that I may have missed in my searches.

Thanks!

William - thanks for the suggestion and I had looked at the XL2 as an option but couple things about it - one the size (large and would need to purchase a new bigger camera backpack that may dubious for carry on - especially on regional jets) and flip lcd not there. I know you can flip the viewfinder but prefer a more larger more flexible lcd. Great suggestion - bit of a challenge to find the right camera....leaning towards a second 100b even with the short optical.

Canon XH-A1s = perfect. It is HDV and 16x9 native. Lens is 20x. If it was solid state with the 20x and a better codec, I would buy one. Lots of folks make great stuff with this cam.

You can also buy a tele adapter for the DVX

If you didn't need the XLR's as specifically built-in to the camera - I'd suggest a used GL2 - but, you "can" get an attachment for XLR inputs. If I remember right - it's got 10x optical and 100x digital zoom and is good for SD Web streaming. For what's been suggested above, you could probably get two.

u dont have to buy it new though but even if u DO buy it new...u can get that AND A USED DVX100B in very good condition from people here in the marketplace for 1700 and below http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=185510

And u come out under $3000 or right at $3000. I;m just using these as benchmarks for the highest u should be spending. Because u can get Good dvx's for 1500. And u dont have to buy the lens new (i would though :)) bringing u well under $3000. search the market place...many dvx offers are there.

SO u end up with 20X zoom AND ur dvx...u get to have ur cake and eat it 2.

edit: heres a very nice offer i found http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=184156

I duno if its still for sale ..PM him and see

Jambredz - that lens directly attach to the 100? If there's no additional mounting unit needed and it that lens doesn't affect exposure by dropping down a stop or 2 - I'd be very much interested in this. Anyone using this in the lens in the field?
