Silly Question: Wireless to Camera

Hi guys,

Just out of my curiosity, how to link from a mixer to a camera wirelessly.
I went out to shoot as a camera assistant in the weekend, the soundman was using a Lectrosonic transmitter hooked up with his SD302 mixer, and on the camera side, he put a receiver.

I did some research but still a bit blur which receiver and transmitter he used for connecting the 302 to camera.

My analyze is

SMa or LMa or UM400 transmitter connect to the mixer output, using cable :5pins TA5F to XLR.
UCR 411 receiver to the camera,

BUT how to get return audio?
Am I in the right track, or completely out of mind.
Are there any good wireless kit from mixer output to camera input WITH return would be great?

It's really important for me, because I am in the ENG field, wireless between my mixer and camera gives me lots of freedom....

Thanks in advance

Hiro

How do you get return audio?
You don't. (not without another piece of gear)

This is why you need to insist that the cameraman use headphones if you're going to use a wireless hop.

If you have major bux to spend you could go with a Zaxcom stereo wireless hop
and a zaxcom IFB100 for a return to you. This would be the current smallest solution.

I actually just bought a Zaxcom QRX100 receiver. (4 channel receiver)
I'm going to be one of the first 5 to get it in a few weeks.
Eventually they will be coming out with an IFB option board for it that would allow
you to monitor the camera back at your bag if you had an IFB receiver in the bag.

If you have the coin thats a sweet solution all in 1.

If not, then in order to hear your audio back at your bag you would have to use another
separate system such as a Comtek, or another standard wireless ..etc.

What do you usually send to camera and production for monitoring and dailies? I'm using a seperate recorder and maybe using a listentech system to send to a red.
If I have 3 lavs and a boom mixed down to one track to camera they would invetably here phase right?
Thanks

When im working with people/production company I know
I usually just put a comtek on the RED for reference.

As far as sending multiple sources to one track and it being out of phase
isn't this why we are called "sound mixers"?

You mix things so they aren't 50% lav/50% boom and out of phase.
You mix it till it sounds right.

If you are only acquiring sounds with no mixing just send certain things (IE: just the lavs, or just the boom)

It's just a reference right?

Ya just a reference. I'm using the 744 so everything is recorded to separate tracks. I don't always get a rehearsal to flip the switch and see if the lav/boom are out of phase. Any tips? I do have to admit that I'm a bit under educated when it comes to adjusting for phase on set.

Hiro sorry for hijacking your thread but I think it is relevant.
Rippie as always, thanks for your advice, and I'm kinda bummed I didn't get the scheops from you.

EDIT: Just thought I'd add that there is a lot of info and discussion about running two lav's and boom and and that there isn't always a need for it if you can't separate the tracks. simple searcd as always. silly question indeed.
