silly microphone question

here's the deal.... I've had my DVX100B for awhile. I finally got a mic for it, an Audio Technica 897 shotgun mic.

here's the silly part... I cannot, for the life of me, attach it to the camera. I was told it would easily fit the side mount. I have the ring shaped clamp that came with the camera, and the boom mount that came with the mic. But neither actually attaches to the camera in any way. I feel ridiculous but I keep messing with it and have had no luck. Is there an accessory/mount that will let me attach it to the slide mount on top of the camera? am I just being stupid?

any simple help welcome.

the mic mount that came with your camera should come with a couple little screws that are meant to screw it into the handle where there are two little holes on the side (next to the built in mic). Attach the mount to those holes on the handle in the positition where the arm with holes is facing down, match them up and screw in the screws. Then put the mic in it and close it and screw the dial down to clamp it in.

Should be pretty obvious once you get it. Don't bother with the clamp that the mic comes with unless you can see the mic in the frame when it's all the way wide. If thats the case then just use what it came with and it should slide into the cold shoe on top of the handle. Pictures would help more, I know, but the instructions for the camera should also cover this somewhere in there. Good luck.

yeah, that's what I thought should work. But the screw holes on the mount and on the camera don't match (the mount holes are too far apart) and I didn't get any screws. I'll have to call and see if I can get some and/or a different mount. Thanks anyway, makes me feel better that I'm not a total airhead.

You should have 2 sets of screws. 4 in total. One is to connect the brace to the camera and the actual mic mount to the brace. I have seen some people try to screw them on backwards. Just look at the picture in the manual and you'll get it. I have that mic and it fits perfectly. Now if you don't have the screws thats another story. I wish you luck!

I never got the screws/adapter plate with DVX100a, only the mike mount itself. With any of these longer mikes you will need to pull them back in the mount (to keep out of the frame), if you use the stock adapter plate anyway.

Rather then order the missing plastic stock adapter & screws (it is available BTW from a few places -- search by part number to find where to order), I decided to use my CNC mill and make a new designed mike mount adapter out of aluminum that will raise the mike another 1" higher to keep these longer mikes out of frame.

I finished the design some time ago, but I haven't produced the g-code yet for the CNC milling. I should to this as I just recently bought the longer Audio Technica 835b (14.5") and can only use it on a boom pole or stand right now.
