Reset the speed of your JKL shuttle keys in the Options/Preferences/Editing tab for faster keyboard-based shuttling in Vegas.
While you're there, you might consider setting your General prefs to load media into the trimmer instead of tracks when you double click a file. For many users, it makes for faster timeline work unless you're generally cutting short scenes.
Also in the prefs, turning off the splash screen will load Vegas slightly faster.
