silly lav question

Ok, so I know hardwired lavs are recommended whenever possible. I've read that the countryman emw is a great choice. My question is about using the emw for the sennheiser G2s. I have the G2s (thanks MattinSTL) and the crappy stock lav that comes with. If you were to buy 1 mic would you buy a hardwired xlr emw or the emw for the sennheiser wireless? Thanks for any feedback.

I would buy the XLR and have them install a break for the g2. Its basically a male->female sennheiser connector so you can be wired for XLR or get rid of the XLR end and go wireless.

I had heard that that type of connector/adapter is about $140. I thought if I were going to spend that much it would make sense to just buy an additional mic instead with the money. Can it be done for a lot less??

I've been calling around and it seems more challenging than it's worth. Countryman will do it - but their price is $325. It seems as though the converter barrel/cable costs over $125.

Now I need to decide wireless or hardwired and just live with one or the other.

Unfortunately I need to buy the Wireless version and then get a connector/adapter for the xlr. Otherwise I will have a heavy/bulky cable that would go into the G2. Not comfortable for someone to wear while moving about. But, that sounds like a great price. It may sway me to buy hardwired for now. ;-)

no you buy the hard wired version then cut the cable and rewire the connectors there - the g2 connectors have to go between the mic and the xlr/power adapter for it to work.

in case anyone is curious... I ordered the emw wired for the G2 with an additional cable/adapter that makes it a hardwired xlr lav that will run off of phantom power. I got it thru Northern lights for around $225. It's special order and will be drop shipped directly from Countryman. It seems like just what I need for a good price.

that is a good price from what I've seen floating around. Let us know how it works out. Thanks for the info. I may just buy mine there and save me some soldering time.
