Silks .vs Diffusers

I'm a little confused...

I need something to bring down the harshness of the sunlight on an outdoor subject. Which do you use, a silk or a diffuser? LINK

The silks are listed in stop ratings... this I get. However the diffuser is not rated. So how do you gauge this thing if I got it instead of a silk?

They're probably also silks too, but its best to check with that company and see what they define those products as. Artificial silk is the common fabric used in all diffusers other than the gel types and tough spun.
