silhouette lighting, james bond intro style

gage & malcolm - thanking you both from the heart - genuinely - not only for your time but also your generous enthusiasm - this has been far more learned (& inspiring) than i was expecting, I now have some real 'knowledge' to take with me into the shoot - hope I can do it all justice - whatever happens i owe you both a fair few drinks next time you're in Nottingham....
will update when I can

Malcolm,

I dont see the differenc between the first silhouette and the second. I even opened them both in PS and couldn't see anything. It might just be me, but how would you describe the difference bewteen the first and second?

Thanks,

GageFX

Heh my mistake. It is the same. I posted two because i had several effects and i needed to scroll down so i took two seperate screenshots. I followed your method and found i had pretty good results by flooring the gamma, but felt that the whites in her shirt weren't too nicely brought out. So i added levels in and used that setting and as you can see I got some nice blacks and i brought out the whites on her shirt nicely. Also without the levels i noticed that behind her there were some patterns on the wall due to uneven lighting. Using that with levels i managed to eliminate the patterns, and make the wall pure white

Ah. Very cool. I thought I was going crazy there for a minute. Thanks for the tips.

hi, forgot all about this - unfortunately the designer wanted to show some of her clothe designs so i didn't use the silhouette idea in the end, filmed them with spotlight & extreme slowmotion & played a lot of it backwards, still looked good but very different from the original idea

They used to have that set up in a nightclub I used to go to. Like what was already said, they have 2-4 lights on the backside of this large fabric screen. The girl who sometimes was nude I might add :) was in between the lights and the screen. If you were standing on the dancefloor looking towards the stage, all you would see is the sillhouette or outline of the person. You can add lights with gels for added flavor too.
