Silhouette effect

I want to acheive a similar effect in video using AE7 (or Motion2 if it is more appropriate).

I want to be able to color the silhouettes as I like and have them moving in the video. Can someone suggest a technique for this?

quickest way is to key your subject select alpha only and precomp that. You can then play with color backgrounds.

you could dive into a good long rotoscopesession or you could posturize/solorize until you get an effect close enough. It won't be the same by any means but may look cool.

If you rotoscoped, you wouldn't need to have any additional effects. Just take the mask data and apply it to a solid layer.

But, yagfxg33k, if your subjects were not filmed against a green screen, the amount of rotoscoping and masks you would need to pull it off would make it prohibitively time consuming, not to mention some of the fine detail you would lose with that route. And if not green screened, that would be the only route you would have.

It would depend on the footage. If you could post a low rez example frame from each, we'd have a better idea.

Suggestion: Film against a colored background (green, blue, even something as simple as a bed sheet), and turn your camera 90 degrees so you are filming 720 as the height. You will have more pixels that way, and unless there is a lot of lateral movement, which if they were dancing in place, there wouldn't be, you could get everything in the 480 horizontal.

Then use AE's keying features. Since you are wanting silhouettes only, you have much more latitude on your key.

Yeah, that was what I feared heh. I will talk to the client and see if he will put up with me shooting him in front of a green screen. I have the setup to make that happen, np problem.
