anyone using this lens? ive been thinking of picking one up for my D50 but have read mixed reviews on the quality control and would like to hear your experience with it (focus issues etc)but the example photos ive seen with it look great!
I love my 50mm 1.8 but its just not wide enough at times. Seems like a hot lens as its not in stock anywhere :)

Dude! I just got one and I highly recommend you cop one if you can hunt it down. I tried B&H, Adorama, Amazon, Ebay, local camera stores in Ft Worth, Dallas, Austin, Houston, San Antonio, & even Lubbock..... Every place was sold out of the Nikon mount (I shoot with a D200) except the Camera Exchange in San Antonio. They had one left and even dropped the price to $399 to match a price for me. SHWEET!!!

This lens save my tale this weekend. My wife and I shot an event and we couldnt have pulled it off without this lens. The lighting was pathetic so we were shooting wide open at 1.4 and it was kickin, tack sharp and color was wonderful! I have heard of the mixed reviews but took a chance and grabbed one due to there being a lack of somewhat wide, fast Nikkor glass that isn't priced like the Nikkor 24mm 1.4 (plus seeing some stunning pictures taken with it). This is a solid well built tank of a lens... Nice Bokeh as well.. As far as the focusing goes, it nailed the shot as long as I didnt screw it up personally!

thanks for the review sounds sweet! i cant find one online anywhere at this moment but im thinking of picking up the sigma 28mm 1.8 thats about $150 cheaper than the 30mm instead.

Why do you feel the need for prime lenses? Get a Sigma 24-70mm 2.8, you'll be happy with the results......

Keep in mind the "mag factor" (1.5 for Nikon I think) with digital cameras also.....
30mm on a Nikon DSLR equates to a 44mm on a full frame or close to it.....

sorry but i like shooting with prime lenses so thats why i feel the need for a new one other than my 50mm and i think its gonna be a 24mm instead of the 30mm :) but i have been considering a zoom in that range as well.
