WOW

What a great film. I do not toss that phrase out there very often. I loved this film. Good movies have four or five moments where you chat about right after the film. But this film was packed with them.
It is smart, funny, well crafted, well written, and very well acted.
And right after the film you are just dying to go have a wonderful glass of wine.
So all in all you could say I enjoyed it. :D

Re: Sideways

Jack: If they want to drink Merlot, we're drinking Merlot.

Miles: No, if anyone orders Merlot, I'm leaving. I am NOT drinking any ****ing Merlot! ;)

Re: Sideways

'Cause that's really what I need... another excuse to drink. I can't wait to see this film. ;D

Re: Sideways

I'm telling you we went to the nearest place that would serve us decent wine. It is evil. EVIL.

I'm a sucker for those kind of things. There is a film called Big Night, about two brothers who open an italian restaurant. Right after that it was I was off to get good Italian. Sucker simpleton I am.

Re: Sideways

Damn thats funny. No, it tends to be the more fun things. Even when I was your I remeber driving like an idiot after seeing Speed (I was on a date).

Re: Sideways

I have to drink white russians while watching The Big Lebowski. It's not even an option. And I have to drink bourbon while watching Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes... OK, that has nothing to do with anything on MST3K, I just like to do that. ;D

Re: Sideways

White Russians with the Big Libowski is an absolute must. I love that movie, I have seen it way too many times. "No one F___ks with the Jesus".

Re: Sideways

I don't mean to piss on anyone's parade, but I think Alexander Payne's movies get more and more average. Sideways is fine and good, but it made me think About Schmidt was a better film, which I hated when I saw it in the theatres because it's nowhere near as funny as Election.

I guess Election is a true black comedy, which I love, and his last two flicks have been more tragic comedies.

Oddly enough, my favorite scene in Sideways wasn't comic it all. It was the romantic wine discussion on the porch -- what a great scene.

Re: Sideways

The Porch scene, that is a wonderful seduction. So well done.
Actually I was very underimpressed with About Schmidt. Perhaps I was expecting more because of Election was so good. But it did not do much for me. But I thought Sideways was solid right through.

Re: Sideways

This film is great and I love wine tasting, wine is sooo good.

So true about BL, after I saw that.. there was no drinking beer for me for awhile .. all I was drinking was white russians.

I know exactly what you mean. In my case it was straight off to the vineyards the next available weekend (last weekend).

I'm a big fan of Citizen Ruth and Election, but they were such cold, cold films. Emotional involvement with the onscreen goings-on just wasn't an issue. They were very clever, sure, but just icy. And I felt this reached its logical conclusion in About Schmidt, which just left me totally disinterested. And I found Sideways such a pleasant surprise simply because it was so warm and funny and sympathetic. Totally recommend it to anyone!

Re: Sideways

I never saw Citizen Ruth, I like Election, but Chris Klien has a way of ruining a movie for me. About Schmidt, was almost boring, didn't really get into it. But Sideways was fantastic, I love the music, and the little details within Giamottis (sp?) performance. It was just a really intruiging human drama.

Re: Sideways

I didn't really like this movie. Maybe its b/c I'm 18 years old and can't find anything to relate too.

Re: Sideways

We screened Sideways at my work tonight. I'm sitting right next to the reels right now.

I didn't get to catch it though. >:(

Some funny lines, but overall, I wasn't impressed. Really got tired of how pathetic Miles was. What really set me off was seeing the Hitler footage playing on TV in Miles' mom's house. You know how many ****ing times I've seen a scene like that in a movie? Is this some kind of code?? Of all the possible types of footage they could use, why do they use Hitler so much?! I know exactly why but don't want this post to spiral into some ****ed up political/jewish/german ideological rant.

I thought this movie was EXTREMELY overrated. Sure it was a good flick but not a great one and didn't deserve all the Oscar buzz it received, in my opinion.

Granted I liked it, and the major actors were very good, but just because you like wine doesn't mean you must love this movie.

I mean how many beer drinkers think that "Old School" should have been nominated for Best Picture? Oh boy, that's probably gonna get a decanter tossed at me!
