HVX 200a
In film cam mode
playing with syncro scan thinking it will give me different looks,
but I do not see a difference on the play back.

Will i have to use the shutter speed sel on side of camera for that?
Going to be filing a vampire being violent and want that look of kayos

any response would be great and i thank you for your time i advanced

Cheers

Choas.... hmmmm. So you desire a high shutter speed for jitteryness? Or a slow shutter speed for motion blur and an ambiguous feeling?

Either way, don't use syncro scan, unless you have a very specific amount of shutter desired. Just turn the shutter on and turn it up or down. This is done by the buttons in the upper right area of where the LCD flips out of.

Most likely you are not turning it up or down enough. If you are used to watching 1/48 or 1/60th shutter speeds, 1/120 or 1/500 should look different to the untrained eye.

Cheers and thanks for the response to my shutter question.

Also thanks for the spelling lesson.

Will be using your advice with the external shutter buttons and will try the extremes with the syncro scan later and get the eyes trained.

Cheers and thanks

No problem. The syncro shutter is really for precise/fine adjustments. You can use it to make large changes, but it takes forever to scroll through. Mainly it is used to sync the cameras shutter to a television or computer monitor which will have varying refresh rates. The buttons I mentioned earlier should allow a quick and noticeable change, because it doubles the shutter every setting. Remember double the shutter and you need to open up the camera one stop. Very high shutterspeeds need lots of light!

Kaminski used a 25 degree shutter or something along those lines for the intense opening of Private Ryan. Faster shutter (smaller angle) = jittery motion, every frame is defined in it's motion.

Faster shutters can increase the perception of detail, and of sharpness, as well.
