Shure FP-33 field mixer

Due to the unity gain and the fact that the field mixer, Shure FP-33 has a pre-amp, I have very hot audio feeding in to my AG-DVX-100A camera's audio. I have to knock my gain down a lot on the mixer. Any suggestions. I don't want to make any adjustments in the camera. I would rather pad it down or place a load between the FP-33's output to the AG-DVX-100A input. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks
Kim

use 10 db pads for line output , 0db on the mixer =-20 dbfs ( the 3-4rd white).
you can also decrease the level on the master for 10 db and calibrate for the same -20 ( -10db vu=-20 dbfs ) and work not to go over the -7 point ,what not so comfortable with shure vu meter and certainly wouldn't activate your mixer limiter ( if iam not mistake 14 db over 0 factory setting).
you can also hook the tape out which 14 db lower to camera xlrs , this is unbalance out so good for short cable runs only , work regularly 0vu on the meter=-20 on dvx)

This may be obvious, but...

Make sure you're running LINE-IN and not MIC-IN on the DVX when using a mixer with a preamp like that!

Late reply: I forgot to check the two input attenuator switches on the front of my 100A. Line and mic. There it was and I had the mixer at line level. Everything is working fine. I had to take some time and study the camera. Check out Barry Green's 'The DVX Book' and the manufactures manual. The last time I checked; you may go to Panasonic's web site and down load the PDF manual before you purchase the camera. Those two sources will save you a lot of grief!

george is still right about pads in cables though (or in your mixer, like sound devices), line or otherwise. you get a "pro" line level, and a "consumer" line level, and sometimes mixers and cams dont match.

the difference in the sound is kinda subtle, its more a % harmonic distortion as far as a know. maybe george will correct me, but i believe thats a gist of it.

Well, not sure, but if the camera can handle what the 302 is putting out, I for one wouldn't pad it at all because that's just going to cause you to use more of the cam's preamps isn't it? The 302's pres blow away the pres in the DVX don't they?

well, as i said, im open to correction (hopefully george reads this) but ive been padding my 302 down to -10 at the output, and it doesnt really make a really drastic difference to the position of the dial on the camera to get the -20dbfs with tone, this is what george suggested I do with the dvx.

heres an interesting question though: are you even using the preamps when you switch to line level?
