Showtime vs. HBO

Weeds, Dexter, and The Walking Dead are the only shows I watch that are currently on any of those channels. Though I have grown to hate Weeds.

EDIT: I lied, I love Boardwalk Empire but haven't kept up with the last season. And I also love Californication despite it getting too repetitive.

While I agree that Showtime has issues with repetitive shows, I think they have a good nitch if they can keep creating new series with strong lead characters with some sort of inner turmoil. It's something everyone can relate to on some level.

I think Showtime and AMC have a long, long way to go before they catch up to HBO. It starts with better content, and more of it. I personally think AMC is closer than Showtime, but the last few series have been unspectacular and I have seen all of them.

I watch / watched the following shows:

Showtime:
- Dexter (great series that I am still watching)

AMC:
- Mad Men (great series that I am still watching)
- Breaking Bad (great series that I am still watching)
- The Walking Dead (okay series that I might continue watching if it comes back)
- Rubicon (terrible series that was rightfully canceled)
- The Killing (terrible series that I have stopped watching)

HBO:
- Game of Thrones (brilliant show so far)
- Band of Brothers / The Pacific (brilliant series)
- Rome (brilliant series)
- From the Earth to the Moon (brilliant series)
- Carnivale (brilliant series that went downhill in the last few episodes)
- The Wire (brilliant series that went slightly, slightly downhill in the final season)
- John Adams (brilliantly realized series, though I would have preferred it be about one of the more interesting founding fathers)
- Eastbound & Down (good series; only seen season 1; need to catch up)
- Entourage (good series that started off brilliant and has gone downhill some)
- Boardwalk Empire (did not like; stopped watching)
- Deadwood (started off strong, but stopped watching at beginning of season 3)
- Hung (awful show; stopped watching after 2 episodes)

Entourage is still on? I thought it got cancelled? I liked that show for the first few seasons. When he got on drugs it just got dumb.

Soon as I get some money coming in, I plan to pick up a lot of shows, but unfortunately, I really haven't seen many programs.

Showtime:
N/A

AMC:
Mad Men (seen all of it, love it (though SSN 4 finale was somewhat underwhelming), really hope they sort out their issues and pick it up for a fifth season)
Breaking Bad (just started this yesterday, love it so far)

HBO:
Game of Thrones (first 2 episodes)
Rome (halfway through SSN 2)
John Adams (I think the first 2 parts?)
Deadwood (finished SSN 1 - one of the best character relationships I've ever seen was between Ian McShane's character and the preacher)

I really want to see The Wire, the rest of Rome, Mildred Pierce, Game of Thrones, Dexter and maybe Boardwalk Empire. I've also seen the first two seasons of Sons of Anarchy, which is a great show. Waiting on SSN 3 to come to the local video store.

The 8th and final season starts this summer. The drugs bit was S7, and yes, I agree that it didn't really work.
