showreel for a video editor newbie

It's pretty obvious really,
You create a showreel to show off your previous work

no previous work = no reel...

So shoot some stuff, edit it, make it previous work and there you go!


Just out of curiousity, why exactly are you wanting to do a showreel?
Is it to try and get employment, or just something to show off to family and friends. If you are doing it for the former, you are certainly going to need some previous stuff to get a job (Would you hire an editor for your precious project that had NO demonstratable experience??)
