shoulder support

i'm looking for a good shoulder support to add to my rods. I really like the way the DVrig pro's shoulder pad works with the ability to attach weighted objects (in my case, a Firestore) on the back. But i don't need all the rest of the DVrig as i just want to keep the setup simple and on rods.

The Zacuto shoulder pad would work i suppose but its quite expensive and doesn't allow for added weight. And the Cavision looks ok and might allow you to attach the firestore to it but it doesn't look all that safe.

Does anyone have any suggestions for other shoulder pads?

I don't have access currently to any DIY equipment so that is out of the question.

Redrock Micro are supposed to be releasing their shoulder support real soon, next month if Im not mistaken. (check their shoulder mount forums)

What I would like to know is who makes those top handle bar/rods combo that the Red camera has???... surely adaptor rigs can be handheld from the top like camcorders offer?

Thanks.

If you a baseplate and rods, I'd suggest the Cavision shoulder pad and handgrips. I've been really happy with these as they add almost no extra weight and the shoulder pad is great to attach packs to. I'm sure you could figure out a way to mount a Firestore to the shoulder pad. I am actually going to have to figure that out myself soon...

May the power of Velcro compel you.
I have the Cavision Shoulder/handGrip package and you can do some wicked smooth moves. However, the shoulder pad isn't good for super long takes as the weight of the camera is all on your arms. Not recommended for doc. The hand grips are great. Make sure to really crank them down though. If the serrrated washers aren't meshed tooth to tooth, watch out! Slippage!

I have velcro on the shoulder mount which I've mounted wireless receivers and firestore to. I also have velcro on my HVX matte box - works great for receivers.

For long takes the hand grips with a kneepad gaffered (or velcro'd) to the bottom of the baseplate gives a nice balance, taking the heat off the arms.

The other mod I did to my hand grips is I got rid of the right side extension. It goes wide on the left and narrow on the right. Now my arms are straight out.

I have the Cavision shoulder mount to. It's not that good. It's what Tim says, it's to heavy for your arms.
But what about putting the HVX on your shoulder and a seperate viewfinder on the front of the camera...
