Shoulder Rig Letus Extreme <> HVX

What is the best Shoulder Rig (documentary) solution for the HVX/Let Us combo?
...Besides the Zacuto.

Using a Cavision handle / shoulder pad - actually pretty impressed with it - shoulder pad will definately need some "padding" though

I have this Cavision set, and it's not working very well. Instable and to fragile. Do you have pictures of this (your?) set up.

it's fun

We used the DV Rig Pros on three HVXs a year ago for a tv pilot, all handheld. Worked great. Of course, this was without 35mm adapters, just a matte box and follow focus on each.

We had a dv rig hd on a feature I just shot and it was just way too front heavy with the hvx+adapter rig.

Matty: doesn't it come with the counterbalance along with the support stick? Furthermore, if the dvigpro can't handle it with it's counterbalances, what actually can support an adaptor rig?

If you really wanna get into a seriously customizable rig... ZACUTO is what you need. You can rig anything and everything you need using their rock hard products. However, it always comes down to a matter of price (I can hook you up with a discount if you want)

I agree with Joseph, the Zacuto stuff is by far the best and it costs it. I have the Cavision rod base and rods and they are good but not in the same league as the Zacuto stuff. I couldn't get together the $$ for it...yet.

My rig is:

- Cavision RS1580S-SPE SHOULDER PAD SYSTEM PACKAGE
- Cavision RBCP Rear Bracket & Mini DV Plate

Cory, I have the same set up....
But where's you're monitor?
And the mattebox?
The FF?

Is there any way you could use a Letus35 extreme or economy...with a SPIDERBRACE?

Sorry if that's an absurd question...

The kind of shooting I'd be using it for would not be extensive though...and the camera would be on a tripod at least half the time.

Maybe the Economy but man, I wouldn't put the cam and LEX on a Spiderbrace - It's just good enough for my bare cam, I think. Anything heavier and I'd be worried about the PVC cracking -

now if you had something like the Spiderbrace made out of Aluminum or something, that would be interesting - I do like the shape and aesthetics of the SB though - quite inventive

I dunno - that rig looks pretty sweet to me ;)

Beautiful redhead aside, even with the HV20 that rig is still very front heavy and there IS flex in the handles of the Spiderbrace (they've been heated up and bent) so I'd be leery - don't get me wrong for non-shoulder mount cams alone, the Spiderbrace is well worth the $65 you pay for it, I'd just not be comfortable hanging much more...

That's why I favor Zacuto and similar products. They enable you to balance with batteries, firestores, or even just weights. Also, Zacuto has a sweet Q-Release setup that enables you to put the center of weight (of your camera) directly under your shoulder. It is definitely worth it just for that piece.

Follow Focus... Now you know what to get me for Christmas :)
Matte Box... Not gonna happen
Monitor... Hopefully upgrade to the EX1 and eliminate the need.

My preference is the barbones run & gun style, so I'm a pretty happy camper. The rig IS front heavy (but I'm not complaining - beats handheld with the Extreme), easliy fixed by moving everything back on the rails... but then I lose my LCD.
