Shoulder mounts... DvRigPro or something else?

I want to get a shoulder mount/stabalizer for my HVX and based on research I've found the DvRigPro to be the best option. I'm not a fan of the focus and iris control on the camera so I want a device with handles to mount both a remote zoom and a focus/iris controls. I also want something that will be able to handle the added weight of a mattebox and possibly a cineporter (if those things ever come out). Am I on the right track with the DvRigPro or is there something else I should look at?
(I'm not considering a steadicam/glidecam)

Hi tippert,

I can only talk about my products.

From what you say you need a platform for all you acc. and they are heavy, So you need the support pod. and the DvRigPro is a very good "4x4 Pick Up truck"

You can check our site for special deals.

The new DVMultiRig is also capable of carrying all your "Goodies" but it's beauty is
the multi uses, and not the "Load Capacity".

Hope this helps.

tippert,

I have the DVRigPro and I really like it. I have used it with rods and a 35 adapter without a problem. It is great for hand held and run and gun shooting. Just be aware, it is not a steadicam. You will get some shake.

You can check out this thread: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=58091

The film I made there was about 75% shot with it.

Chris

p.s. That DVMultiRig solutions looks promising.

Hi Tippert:

We recently shot a tv pilot with the HVX-200, matte boxes, filters and follow focuses mounted on the DVRigPro. I give it a big thumbs up, they worked out great. They are great for handholding and comfortable to use for long takes.

A great product. I will be buying one myself as soon as I can afford it.

I have had the DV Rig Pro for quite some time and have been impressed with it. Have had the HVX less than a week and just got around to mounting it on DVRIG Pro. Seems quite stable and I was able to get it balanced nicely. Interesting that Dan was able to use it with matte boxes and rails, etc. I'll be getting the use of a Zacuto set up and it will be quite an interesting test to go between my tripod and the DVRig Pro with the full set up. But, I do recommend the product for its construction, stability and ease of set up/use.

Hi CMessineo ! I am looking at getting the SGPro 35mm adaptor and a stabaliser system, how did you monitor the shoot. I have the Marshall 7' HD monitor and was wondering if the rig could take this too ?

Thanks for all the great feedback. It looks like the DvRigPro is the best way to make a loaded HVX suitable for hand-held cinematography. (it was helpful to watch CMessineo's footage)

I have a follow-up question: If I had the $ to spend on a glidecam smooth shooter, would that be a viable option for documentary uses. I've only used the full-sized steadicam rig with a Cinealta and I know what it begins to feel like after 10mins. How long can you go with one of the lighter rigs?

Ray,

I responed to your pm, but in short it should be fine IMHO.

I won a DVRIG Pro in the last DVXUSER fest. haven't had a chance to use it extensively yet (I will this weekend though). The build quality is great and, as Chris said, it's definitely NOT a steadicam. My only issue with it is that the spring/joint makes noise when I rotate the camera up and down. Don't know if it's just my unit or what.

Hi Kaz,

When you operate in standard shoots the nise is very low if any at all, when you bounce the camera a noise will be heard. Tell me if this is the case, If not I will mail you some fixing advice.

HI, Danny!

Good to see you here.

I have not noticed any spring noise from my DVRIG Pro.

I'll be shooting with the HVX in Israel this July.

Ned

You are lucky.

Make sure to give me a call and come visit me, We will be assembling and packing
DVMultiRigs in July, Come and give us a hand...

How long is your visit.

Danny.

Depending on what your budget is and uses are... I have the spiderbrace and it works amazingly! It's only $64.95.. But it's not adjustable and does not break down.. I've had heavy people and skinny people use it and say its great.. I think it's worth the $$!!

It weighs practically nothing as well!

Danny I love the DVRigs, but I'm in almost $12,000 with my HVX and it was the only way so far..

Danny

I'll be in Israel June 30-July 16 rather tied up in Jerusalem. I always get lost in Tel Aviv but I bought a better map last year, so hopefully can find you. Will let you know when I can break free.

I was in B&H and asked about the DVRigPro and the sales guy told me that the old models were great but the new models (with the round counter weight in the back) don't sit on the shoulders well. (Something about the padding) They didn't have a model on display to try out, nor did they recomend any similar product out there. Does anybody know if there is any truth to that? I've been looking for something like this, but I can't have it slipping off my shoulders!
Thanks

Danny, just an update: It wasn't the pole, it was in fact the spring. I did a slight adjustment with the nut and everything's perfect. No more noise.

psts,

We had some complaints about the "Slippery" shoulder pad.

Anyone with this problem can Email me and I will send them two Anti-Skid patches with velcro backs to stick on the existing pads.

It works well and adds a nice grip feeling on the shoulder.

If you can't afford a new DvRigPro. you can Email me, We have few ExDemo units
in a very good price.

Danny.
