Shoulder mount + wide angle

So we all know that a nice wide angle lens complements the steadi/glidecam device. However, I do not own a glide cam device, and theres a decent shoulder mount for a nice cheap price. I own a Tokina 11-16mm, and was wondering if I should pair that up with a shoulder mount to get really cool results similar to that of a glide/steadicam. Yes, I know that the steady/glide and shoulder mounts are two different devices, but they are both stabiliser. Has anybody used an ultra wide on a shoulder mount to get 'cinematic' or cool results? Or does it only really work well with steadies?

Shoulder rigs are pretty good for getting a more steady shot when you are standing and pointing the camera at things, but walking is a whole different story.
The smooth gliding effect while walking really only comes from a steadycam. Walking with your knees bent using a shoulder rig is going to usually give "mostly usable" results, but it's not going to have that floating steadycam look.

Yeah, figured it would be a difference. I guess I wanted to avoid the learning curve of a steadicam and just use a shoulder mount for wide angles. But I think i'm just going to get both. steadicam strictly for my wide angles and the shoulder mount for practically everything else.

Thank you, DPStewart!
