Should I stay or should I go?

I've been using Premiere for the last 5 years, now that i'm building a new workstation, the logical step would to be for me to step up to CS5, but sincerely, I'm tired of Premiere, i'm really curious about Vegras PRO 10...

Would you recommend it to me? I've never uses Vegas but I read great things.
I basically shoot for small TV networks, using a HMC150/ HMC40 lately. Downscale AVCHD to SD for network purposes.

Do you think moving over to Vegas would make me forget Premiere?

Thanks!

Only you can decide that. Download the trial -- though AVCHD may not work in the trial version because of licensing.

I've got Vegas and CS5 and use Vegas a bunch. In fact it's so good the new FCP has stolen most of it's functionality and interface :)

Huh. I wonder if someone making that comment in snark wasn't what gave rise to the "rumor" that Apple had bought Vegas.

I guess that did come across as kinda snarky - my bad. I just found it kind of amusing when I looked at some screenshots of the new FCP interface and it bore a striking resemblance to Vegas (this is a good thing in my opinion). Can't really tell much until people start getting copies of the software in hand but I can't be the only one who was a little surprised at the similarities from the preview.

I was sorta expecting a few opinions in favor or against, more like in favor being this a Vegas Forum!

Why do you use Vegas and not another NLE?

I use the NLE which is appropriate for the task at hand, so I use several. For example, if you want to organize and edit a great deal of P2 material, you're far better off starting in Premiere.

However, Vegas has always been my general favorite because it most fits the particular way I want to edit. The problem is that the way I want to edit is not the same as how others want to edit, or how you'll want to edit.

Picking an NLE is entirely about personal preference. They all have pluses and minuses, and they all fit a particular workflow well and not so much other workflows -- but they all generally accomplish the same things to the same degree. So, you have to determine how you like to work and go from there.

I have Vegas 9 and CS5.
I may add Vegas 10 at some point but I really don't find one “naturally” better than the other.

I like Vegas because in my mind it seems more LOGICAL and easier to cut with but I find CS5 is better and faster when it comes to split screen and still photo pans and zooms.

I think the only way you'll ever know is to try it.

If I had to pick only one, I would go with Premier mostly because I do a lot still photo and PIP / splitscreen stuff.
And I do like Adobe Media Encoder...
CS5 does not crash like Vegas did when I work with photos...

I hear Vegas is better to downscale from HD to SD... I'm going to do alot of that...

You may miss dynamic link, which is really cool. But yeah, as it's been ststed in the other posts, your gonna have figure this out on your own. But dont feel bad because im in the same boat as you. I cant decide to stick with premiere or go finalcut. decisions , decisions, is correct.
