Should I post my packages/prices?

I am really stumped. I have several .pdf documents that have all my package information along with the pricing for weddings, special events, photo montages, etc. I think I am at a place with quality that I can charge more, but the biz is still pretty slow (still fairly new).

Should I just remove this information and simply have my contact information? Or just remove the pricing from my packages? How does your business (if any) handle this? Which route would have more success? Thanks.

I personally chose not to put it on my website, but to email the list to clients. I still have to make a separate wedding page with different packages, but without the prices. You never know what production company is looking at your rates.

ot: I just watched your wedding video. Do you use a shotgun or lav?

One good thing the prices do (if they are reasonable for the area) are weed out the good clients from the bad ones. I would not like it if I spent alot of time doing demos with a client and and the end they are like......"well, we have $500 to spend for coverage of the whole day"

I would make them work to find the prices....like have a packages page, then another link to pdfs of specifics...including prices.

Along the same lines as what Cecil said about weeding out the good clients from the bad, I think it could also go the other way.

Meaning, client who have worked with ad agencies or prod companies in the past are aware of the general going rates. Even if your work is top-notch, if your prices are too low, they might see them and assume that you are amateur. I myself an guilty of looking at people's website and just assuming they were amateur from their prices.

I don't post my prices. If a client contacts me or I apply for a gig that asks for prices, I will list GENERAL prices and what they do/don't include. There are so many aspects of production, I try to hold out on final costs until I have met with them and found out the scope of the project.

Look at production house websites. Do they post their prices? Most I see do not.

Hmm... this is still tough. Oh Ferdi I use whatever I can get. That particular wedding was the worst sound I have had. Right now I use a lav and a shotgun for 1 camera weddings.

Another example is this:

Client A and Client B want their weddings shot and cut, same package.

Client A: Getting married 30 min away from your location. Wedding party has 8 people. Reception starts right after ceremony. Ceremony start to reception end time is 5:00-12:00.

Client B: Getting married 90 min away from your location. Wedding party has 16 people. Ceremony starts at noon, reception starts at 6:00, ends at 12:00.

My example is just one possible of many that show why I don't list prices... things are always different, even in the wedding world. I find it easier to give a price after I get details, then have them expecting my listed price, then I have to explain why it will cost more.
