Should I make a Webseries?

I am a filmmaker, and I have been working on a script for a long time. I hope to raise some money, get a crew together, and shoot it for around 50k or so.

However, I was thinking about in addition to the film, to first make a 3-5 episode webseries. It will have same characters but just some side-plots related to the feature film. I can do it on no-budget with the hopes of attracting an audience and maybe some investors.

What does everyone think of that idea?

You would have to give it the same level of dedication and professionalism you plan to give to the film. If you do less, it only hurts your goals to give exposure to your film.

If you can assure the quality and style will be similar to the film, then I think it would be an awesome idea, not just to attract attention but to get used to working with the actors and crew.

I would definitely put in a lot of passion towards the web series as well, but with the resources and budget a I have it will make it a lot easier to do, and in the realm of my capability. For the feature, I would really like a much larger budget and crew, so ideally maybe the web series would provoke a at least a more successful kickstarter campaign for the feature.

I am really liking this idea!

Whats the question?
If you have the time, resources, ability & desire, why not? I say go for it, I say CREATE when possible rather than sitting around THINKING about it.

I agree you should create your web series in a serious manner, and do it as well as you possibly can. But don't let the fear of imperfection keep you from doing it. I assume part of the web series goal is becoming a better film maker, right? You don't become a better film maker by sitting around until you are a perfect film maker.

Just be aware that building an audience and creating a high quality web series is no different than any other film project if you take it seriously and are professional. If you have the bandwidth to sink a huge amount of time into it then it sounds like a great way to prepare for a Kickstarter campaign down the road, assuming you get good assets out of it.

How long would the episodes be?

They will probably be roughly 7 minutes long; It will be live-action and cartoon (i'm an animator too and will handle the cartoons.) But in a nutshell It plays with the idea of a character being sucked into a cartoon universe.

And you can manage to pull off 3-5 seven minute episodes mixing live action and animation within a specified time period?

I imagine I would complete all of them first, and then release one every week or so for about a month. But I'm well aware of how long the animation will take, I already made a 30 min. short film with live-action and animation...
