If you export your AE composition as DV and audio at 48 k, you should be able to bring that into FC Express with no 'rendering'.

If you export from AE using some other form of codec, that will generate the need to render the clip.

Obviously AE and Premiere will play nicely together since they're both Adobe products and Adobe has done an excellent job of integrating their software. I've not had any background with FCE, but I imagine Premiere would be a step up from that one since its the stripped down consumer version. I'm running Adobe's Masterworks CS3 collection right now and I love it! Great software, good tools, excellent integration.

I recently updated to the CS3 Production Bundle, which has Primiere Pro. My reason for updating was because I wanted a flash and AE update... so the other items like Primiere and photoshop were just 'there', and the package included the Encore and
Sound editing stuff so, I may be switching to Primiere for my video work.

But I will probably still keep up with the FC E versions... because at the moment it still works on my iBook which also has AE 7...

Production premium

Production premium

I've been using CS3 production premium since it came out, and I'm currently teaching myself After Effects. Premiere and After Effects ( and Encore, soundbooth and the others) work so well together. It's like they are one programme. I haven't used Final Cut for years and to be honest I'm not missing it. Adobe really got it right with their latest releases IMO.

Should be a pretty smooth transition from Final Cut to Premiere -- they're nearly identical in many basic respects (not a coincidence), so an FC user should be quite comfortable with the Premiere interface.
