Should I Dispute the Charge- Rental Sucked

I rented a camera and it had some problems reading the batteries, etc. ...so we found out on the shoot. This was multicam, so I'm not stressing..Briefly, we got some footage out of it, but could not use it for the whole day we were expecting.

This was for a wedding on Nov. 13th. I returned the camera and of course, gave them some dramatics.

The rental place eventually agreed to refund the rental money. They called to tell me "The check would be in the mail." Later, after I inquired why I haven't received the check, they said, "Oh, I forgot due to Thanksgiving and all..writing the check today." Dec. 7th still no check. Credit card bill is due soon, though.

Should I call, to hear them say, "oh, forgot, will do.." or should I just start the process of disputing the charge through the credit card company?

If that has to happen like that and they get ugly, you will likely be warned what company it was.

What kind of documentation do you have from them? I would still call one more time. Then if there is any problem, Dispute it.

how much was it to rent, if you don't mind me asking? If its in the hundrends then I sure hell will dispute them. Don't let people like that walk all over you. "Oh, I forgot due to thanksgivging and all..." that's very unprofessional of them to say "I forgot". what a bunch of bull! Pooh, you want me to go there and raise hell? I hope things will work out.

The fact that they say the checks in the mail reather than deeal with your in a direct manner is odd. It says alot for the company and being that time is money, you'd probably best off cutting your losses and looking at is as a learning experience.
Easier said than done, I know. Roller over and playin dead doesn't come natural for any of us. Ya gotta choose your battles though and hagglin over a rental on a project that is done and over with (and billed for?) aint gonna do anything but get ya riled up.
Drop in in person tomorrow to pick up your check. If ya get it, great. If not, your done and thats pretty great too.

Yes, go pound them!

What irked me the most was they said, "Well, we've never had that problem before. We have a lot of people who really know what they are doing who rent them out with no problems....eh, hem."

The camera was a VX-2000.

I called the credit card company and they wondered why the rental place didn't just credit back the rental fee....good point.

stay tuned.

(this is an update..I didn't want to create another threaded post)
I talked to them over the phone.
They've been understaffed (my sympathies, yes...).
Person who was lagging will call me.

So we probably won't go around beating up rental guys for now.

Call the CC company to dispute the charges till the refund check arrives. There is no reason for you to incur interest charges because of someone elses "forgetfullness". It doesn't absolve you from the debt - just puts the transaction in limbo for awhile. This type of action will refresh the rental companies memory quite well. Once you receive the check, you can inform the CC company that the matter has been resolved.
