I have $5000 to get the DVX100A and other things I'll need to make the Camera work at it's best... but I am not in a rush, so is there anyone out there who thinks or knows if a newer model is coming out any time soon. How much more improvement does this camera needs?

And I also wanne to know what are the other essential things I should get for this camera.

Thanks in advance.

Nobody knows about if there'll be a newer model yet - Panasonic hasn't announced anything at least. I'd suggest waiting till you need to shoot whatever it is you'll need the camera for, and then buying it. That way, you'll have waited till the last possible minute, and you won't feel bad if a week after you buy your camera they announce a DVX200 - because you needed the camera anyways!

Omiemac, it doesn't look like any major changes in 2005

Re: Should I Buy the DVX100A or wait?

If you need it now, and you have $5,000, I'd say:

Buy the DVX.

Buy a better microphone - if you're shooting parties, a shotgun mic and perhaps a handheld (for intimate family speeches - something they can handhold themselves for a one-on-one talk to whoever the video is for)

Consider perhaps a sun gun - I don't know how much these cost, but they could save your life in live videography.

You probably won't need the anamorphic adaptor or a mattebox for live videography, though those are what I'd reccomend first were you intending to shoot independent films.

Re: Should I Buy the DVX100A or wait?

If you need a camera, bye it.
If you dont need it, dont bye it.
What shuld you use the camera to. ???
You cant take movies today if you dont have a camera ;)

Re: Should I Buy the DVX100A or wait?

Even though the DVX has a fairly wide lens, a Century Optics wide angle adapter would be an asset in tight locations, especially if you will not have the anamorphic.
I definitely agree about the mics.

Re: Should I Buy the DVX100A or wait?

If your going to be shooting wedding video's the dvx works great in low light, but if your going to have it sitting on a shelve for months then you should wait until you really need to get it, take it easy. Buy Barry's dvx book and dvd, read up about the camera and watch samples. It's not cheap but it's not expensive either - and it contains everybit of knowledge on the camera.

Re: Should I Buy the DVX100A or wait?

For weddings you need every bit of low light you can afford. The dvx is excellent in low light but the sony pd170/vx2100 is still better. Less grain, faster automatic function especially the automatic white balance, you can add a wide adaptor thats wider then the dvx with no barrel distortion.
For movies theres no doubt the dvx is better.
My 2c worth from someone who agonized over this 12 months ago.

Re: Should I Buy the DVX100A or wait?

If you buy it now, that means you get to start learning how to use it sooner.

When I bought mine in Nov. I kept thinking the same thing. But I've learned so much about it since, and I'm glad I got it.

Now.. it's the accessories I am having a hard time deciding on lol.

Re: Should I Buy the DVX100A or wait?

Re: Should I Buy the DVX100A or wait?

I've yet to come into a problem where low light is the issue I've attached an on camera light once since I've been shooting weddings. It's come to be a pain just dragging the 6lb battery for the light with me. the dvx captures great low light video

I had the same problem with 50watt light a 8lb pound battery and wires on the way coming down from the Camera, I just was't happy. So I went and got a 20watt Bescor Model KLK36 light which are not as expensive as the firts one... Has anyone here ever used the Bescor KLK36? and how are they, Thanks

I just hope they are good for the job.
