Should I buy the Anamorphic Lens for Panasonic

I'm thinking of buying a Panasonic AG-LA7200 Anamorphic lens for the Panasonic DVX-100. I've never used one, only read about it. Shooting a movie, is there any disadvantages of using this lens; focal length, zoom through?, alignment, time, etc...

BONUS QUESTION: What would you rather shoot a movie with?
A. JVC KY27 BETA CAM + wide angle lens + filters
B. Panasonic DVX100 @24p Advance mode + Anamorphic lens

I find the little extra time and care required to use the anamorphic lens well worth it - I like the extra field of view it gives me I work slow anyway and knowing that I have the very best picture this camera can produce is my main goal.
And since I own a DVx and the anamorphic that is the camera I would rather shoot a movie with. I know nothing about the JVC so this is a bias answer. Go with DVX and 24p.

Thank you for the response. can you be more specific about the "time and care" it takes you with the anamorphic. I know there is a process to get the lens straight and aligned properly. What else and how much time are we talking here?

The time and care in focusing. Check out the hardware section in this board. Barry Green has written a user guide for the anamorphic as well as a user's guide for the Dvx I highly. Get it. All your questions will be answered.

I second that with student. I highly recommend getting Barry Greens DVD and book. I was trying to answer the same question.

I, too, would choose the DVX over the JVC. If you're shooting a movie, 24p is going to make the biggest difference.

For best prices I would check with EVS, Adorama, or B&H. You could get it used, but I have a problem with buying used lenses. you never know how they were treated.

$738 huh, does that include free shipping? It would seem that we have a few DVX fans here. I have purchased the DVD tutorial and look forward to seeing it. I appreciate all of your feedback everyone, thanks.
