Hi there guys i found a shop in sydney that is selling a Asus 285 GTX for 490 AUD thats around 430.238 USD

But i am not sure if my Current setup will do anything to help.. or does prem cs5 run better off only the GPU ?

Sepcs

CPU : Intel i3 -530
Mobo : P55A-UD3 ( the USB 3.0 Version )
GFX: ATI 5770 Set on PEG 1 SLOT ( going to put the 285 in PEG 2 SLOT )
OS : 5770 Has win 7 ULT 32Bit Part (will put the 285 on win7 pro 64bit Part)
RAM : 2GIG DDR 3 1066... might need extra x two 4Gig sticks?

Please tell me if this a good idea or wait for more support fpr New model's of Nvidia cards that will use CUDA

Thanks

Running an ATI card and an Nvidia card on the same system -- even if you only install drivers for one on each partition -- may well be problematic. It definitely will be if you try to install drivers for both on the same system.

I don't see the point in using two different cards in the same system. You can't join them for combined processing power like with SLI and crossfire. Might as well ditch the 5770 and get a 2nd hand GTX 285 for around $300.

I am not really using it for SLI , just one for Games and the other for Editing when i go into the 64bit mode i will switch to peg 2 in the bios

But you think the i3 + GTX 285 will be ok for editing native 7D clips ?

Depends on what you mean by "OK." You'll get great performance in general, but 7D footage, real-time, full-quality, with multiple streams? I have doubts. 7D footage is brutal.

To really maximize performance, though, you'll want to have your footage on striped RAID, preferably with four or more drives.

Not sure why you want to use one for games and one for editing, though. The GTX 285 should smoke the Radeon anyway, and more and more games are optimized for Nvidia to start with. Why not use it for both?

The 5770 Has eyefinity , which i will be using soon just need to get one more sceen :)

Cool i will try the striped RAID , how should i go about setting it up ? i got 8 HDDS but there just hot swapped via external HDD docking

Well, I guess I've done crazier things with less reason, so carry on. :)

To set up a RAID, you'll have to consult your motherboard's instructions.

Hey Dav , i found one at Orange It for 450 AUD

MPE runs so smooth on the System :)

best 450 i spent in a while!

Edit .. the price was 350 Aud**

Hi vx1kOrnot,

Glad you got one. Can you give me an idea of how your performance has changed with Premiere Pro CS5 since you got the GTX285? How specifically has MPE helped you? What aspects of running Premiere Pro CS5 have improved, etc, etc?

I have an Intel i7 with 12GB ram - do you think the GTX285 will help me??

I just need to work out the benefits and whether I should get a GTX285 or wait until I can get a Quadro for cheaper... in the way distant future, and your experience would really help me.

Thanks in advance.

On CS5 I can run 3 7D clips without the help of a Nvidia Cuda card without problems. No RAID used, just a dedicated source and scratch disk.

CPU: Q8200
Ram: DDR-3 800 Value Ram
OS: Vista 64bit

I will get a GTX 470 which will be supported later this year and will be faster than any Quadro card for the price of a, well a 285...

Are you sure the 470 will be? I know the 480 will, but I haven't hear about the 470 specifically yet.

In any event, unless there is some pressing need, this is honestly the smartest thing to do. Even if the 470 winds up not being "officially" supported, people are reporting using the 470 via the "card hack" with no issues. Note, though, you'll probably need to get a higher wattage power supply too as the 470 and 480 are supposed to be power hogs.

I think that was always the misinterpretation of a Adobe statement. I think that 470 and 480 will be supported.
