Shotgun microphones

Hey,

Got a question. I've never testmy XLR audio inputs but if I were to buy a shotgun mic and plug it in how do I know it is actually working? Does the built in mic get disabled in favour of the newer more high quality mic. I know this seems like strange question but how else are you to know?

Chris

PS: I plan to buy the Rode-2 shotgun mic on DVcreators.net

I use a me66 and you set what input you want to use behind the LCD... most of the time I have the me as input 1 and use the inboard mic for channel 2...

You can view the levels of the me and onboard separately...

Cheers

This has been covered a lot, but the standard is to set both inputs to 2, connect your microphone to 2, and set the levels differently. For example, one level you would set at 12 o'clock, the other you would set at 11 o'clock. This gives you some protection from blowouts.
