Shotgun Microphones - Buyer's Guide 2009

according to that pdf..
a senn mkh60 has a retail price of $2700?
dang...

I'll let mine go for a rock bottom steal of $2000 then ;)

Also I see it lists that a Sanken CS3e doesnt have a high pass filter.

Im glad I never hit the switch on mine then..it must be a universe distruction switch ;)

(point being, this pdf doesnt have much useful info on it, and half of the info it does have is wrong)

Don't touch it--it's the history eraser button, you fool!!!

(Sorry for the random "Ren & Stimpy" reference, we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread...)

Wow.. chill-out Rippie...ever heard of a typo? Half the info is wrong? I think you better read it a little closer. It's not meant to be a bible or anything, just a good listing of shotgun mics all in one place.

Sorry to have offended you & your professional status...perhaps you could correct the pdf and help some of the weekend warriors with good solid information instead of discounting the entire pdf?

another FYI – pricing on Rode NTG-2 just dropped, now $270 at B&H

(It's now same price as NTG-1 so I would say NTG-1 is about to be discontinued)

Other than listing the actual mic's what point is this pdf?
Im serious when I ask.

There really isn't any useful info in my opinion.

Thats all im saying.

Perhaps there are users here that are just starting to think about getting a shotgun mic & don't know where to start.

Then stop looking at it..you know what they say about opinions?

Thats all im saying.
Thank You.

since you're so quick to put down my "opinion"
please tell me what this "guide" does to help those starting out?

Give me 1 specific detail?

Yea I thought so.

man, why are there so many threads lately with people biting eachothers heads off... jeez. I thought that one of the great things about forums compared to face to face conversation was that if you didn't find something helpful or relevant to you, you could just ignore it, instead of starting a meaningless confrontation with someone that ultimately comes to no good end...

And seriously Rippie..
Yea I thought so.

That doesn't sound very mature at all.

Well Ripple, not sure how it helps someone starting out. But someone who has been around and is in the market in a non pressured way it's kind of useful to see what's out there. Anyone who made a purchase decision based on a list would be an idiot and deserve what they get. But it got me to look at a few mics I had either forgotten about or had never heard of. I don't have a lot of need at the moment for another shotgun but I may in the not so distant future so I did like the PDF and I do work in the industry.

Does that count as a useful thing? I think so.

The guy posted info, give him a break. If he went off saying that brand X is clearly better, see this list. Then I would be with you. But all he did was post a list of mics and some specs (poss of dubious accuracy).
