Only till recently have I been exposed the the wonder of good audio. Now im on a mission to find a shotgun mic thats small enough to be compatable with centurys fisheye lens for the dvx100, the problem with the fisheye of couse is it picks up any standard sized shotgun mic. Does anyone know of a good quality shotgun mic at a reasonable price within $250-$350?

Thank you

Don't prioritize your choice of shotgun based on how far it will stick into the field of view with a wide adapter. You can get a stratos bracket or wondercam bracket and put on a gun that's 18" long if you wanted to run a mic on the cam.

For your price range this topic has been discussed so much that the horse's corpse is gone. You'll probably be happiest with a Rode NTG2 or AT897... in that order... at that price range.

Physical laws of audio govern the length of the microphone. If it is short, it can not be directional enough to be called a shotgun. Nothing anybody can do about it...

what does matter is the length of the tube before the element and not the actual length of the mike
the rode ntg-1 and ntg-2 are both short shotguns with same performers
and the new schoeps has even shorter tube and also called shotgun
and if you take AT super directional mike which has 4 capsules and eliminate the side rejection by electronic manipulation even shorter -and it also called shotgun
usially supercardiod microphones with tight pattern called shotguns and that have nothing with their tube length
