Shot Scenerio: how would you pull this off?

The Shot:

Start fairly close on a wall that has some framed pictures on it

Move back to reveal a kitchen table with three people sitting at it

As we move back we see the table/people go out of focus and a product is revealed (small box) in focus in the foreground as table/kitchen is in background.

Problem I'm having in tests is, using track, I can't get the product close enough to camera for the reveal it. Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated.

With an assumption that this is an average table for four.

You can dolly back from the wall with the table at your left. Pan to frame your table while you continue dollying back and than along the tracks have a table setup with the small box/product. Slowly let the table go out of focus (begin racking slowly to the product [which is still out of frame]) before the product appears in your composition feather the dolly down while you compose your product which is now either in focus or getting into focus.

Now, if this is a rectangular dinner type table you can dolly back and than have some curved track to get to the end of the table where the product lies and the people/table is in the background.

Maybe put a jib on the dolly to extend past the track? You'd need a lot more room behind though to fit the rig in.

Yeah, you can't do this (without CGI) in a straight line coz your camera would need to move through the product box, so either you'll need to pan or have a curve in the dolly track. Although depending on the shot, you just might be able to have a trick product box which falls/rises into shot while out of focus?

Hmm, strikes me this shot will be easier to film in reverse, starting with the product and ending at the wall, then reverse again in post-production?

I'd just offset the product, and at the end of the dolly track drop a curve track down, so the camera will naturally pan into the box (if thats an option for you)
