Shot On DVX, Imported With XL1

Hello,

I'm not sure where I should post this, but this looked to be the closest forum:

I have some footage shot on the DVX100A using both the S1 and S2 scene files. I had to import the footage using Final Cut Pro 5 into my computer using the Canon XL-1 as a deck, however I can't get the footage in correctly.

It is choppy, there are speed changes, and there a pixel artifacts when capturing and when looking at the captured footage on the hard drive.

However, looking through the viewfinder durring capture, of when I hooked the camer up to the television and played the footage via RCA wires, the image is absolutely fine.

I've tried all kinds of capture and device control settings, but they all return the same results.

Is there a fix to this? Are there any known issues with this kind of thing?

There should not be any issue's capturing. You can capture off ANY camera, and the same digital info will get sent.

What are your FCP settings? under the FCP menu> easy setup> DV NTSC is what it should be

P.S. This thread may get moved to the FCP subforum, so keep your eye's open (that's where it should have been asked, just so you know)

Very interesting. I had tried restarting my computer, tried removing and then plugging the firewire back in. I playe around with all kinds of import setting, and nothing worked.

But after your post, I went to the Easy Setup window, and it was at custom, so I changed it to DV NTSC and now it works! I wouldn't have thought to go there, since my settings have been working for so long - it never crossed my mind.

Thanks a bunch.
