Short notice clients...

How many calls do you guys get from people needing a shoot "tomorrow" or on very short notice?
Seems a lot of people operate this way.
It's a lot easier to not plan ahead than to be the opposite.
It's been this way for years and I don't see it ever changing. Is this what you see a lot as well?

About...25% for me, maybe? most of my stuff books no more than a few weeks out, but I get a fair amount of next day or two day out calls. And a lot of times these are corporate folks.

I'd say maybe half of my business is within 24-48 hours notice window. That includes (the fortunately rare) same day calls, you know "Hey, how long will it take you to get to X?" Or "How close are you to Y?".

Depends on what it is. What used to drive me crazy is getting the call for a press conference the day before when the press release was sent out one to two weeks ago and everyone else already knew about it, planned and booked crews. That's just lazy, most of the time. Other things are completely understandable, like live shots, breaking news type situations, even some interviews and features("Hey we've been trying to line this up with X and they can do it tomorrow).

My best money always came from the last minute jobs. Wait to the last second you're gonna pay full rate. A certain music superstar decided to make a birthday video for her then-boyfriend (now husband) and it all had to be shot & posted in two days so that it could be shown at his birthday bash. And this was on film. I got the call as I was driving my family home from a Thanksgiving weekend trip, and within two hours I was on set with my gear and rolling. That one job paid enough to get me through the winter!
